An SVG/Javascript wireframe prototype of a file browser. Since making an earlier prototype at University, some of my predications have played out in Lion.

Click the blue square top right to switch views. (And uncover only more questions.) SVG was way more fun than HTML for interactive web pages.

Conversation with my Dad

Nature seems to have direction, the stars above seem to knowingly guide us forward. But what if this is an illusion. Truthfully, nature's direction comes from behind, its guidance is the supportive heat of the big bang on our backs. This is the ultimate known ancestor, an explosion whose impulse directs the motion of all things, eternally. We are the ongoing creative universe, created by creator parents, descended from creator rocks before them, born of the original explosion long before. The past is all-knowing. We are the front edge of Creation, the grassroots gods creating the future.

http://www.exquisitetweets.com/collection/fstid/387

fstid : Your senses are unreliable, your perceptions auto correct them. What guides our auto-corrected perceptions is ancestral training on reality.

chirpster : @fstid We see the world through distorted lenses. The corrections we make to that vision are themselves distortion...

fstid : @chirpster 'Distorted' in relation to our perceived ideals. The ideals don't exist anywhere. The ideals are distortions of reality

chirpster : @fstid That distortion is the 'corrections' I referred to. But even the image formed on the retina is a get-you-by fabrication.

fstid : @chirpster Our attraction to perfect domes and squares, is the human caricature of nature, the human mind seeing itself.

chirpster : @fstid ... Nature takes these perfect primitives (it has no choice) and makes errors as it works with them...

fstid : @chirpster haha, who is the man who thinks his local laws are the laws of nature?

chirpster : @fstid "A barbarian is a man who believes the customs of his tribe are the laws of nature." - George Bernard Shaw

fstid : @chirpster Nature is a chaotic expression of atomic matter unguided by anything but persistence. We are the universe seeing itself.

fstid : @chirpster Naturally, we believe everything points forward to God. But in truth all nature moves away from one point - the big bang.

Criticism of Some Contemporary Art

Criticism of Some Contemporary Art

Many of the experiences exhibited in modern galleries are poor relations to richer effects that we can experience in nature. Photographs of effects, or installations demonstrating effects.

The only act of the work then, is that it is being offered as art - the assertion of placing it in a gallery. Intellectual culture is declaring these phenomena fit for contemporary attention. The works are merely identifiers in the pursuit of art discussion.

This 'art' has very little to do with joy or creativity. The works are not contributions to nature. It is only a train spotters collection of passing fads in cultural awareness. The culturally detached atmosphere of the modern art gallery is used to glorify vacuous meta-works above works of actual natural value.

The widespread fear of the new meaning of Art is justified. This type of art makes little contribution to nature and devalues value.

Video Calling

Video calling would be less weird if I couldn't see my own face. Seeing a reflection of my own face whilst talking to someone else is weird.

Filming yourself for someone else is weird. Talking to video of the other person is not weird, that part is natural.

The only reason to see your own face is to check you're in frame. Actually showing my own face is way too much info, it's very distracting.

I suggest using face tracking to show a simple graphic that indicates good position in the frame with a full circle. Waayy better.

Then, when I switch to reverse camera to film not-my-face, do show the preview in the corner, so I can aim it.

I just made FaceTime usable.

Love Hate Computers

Computers allow us amazing intellectual freedom and mastery, but they must first dominate us physically. They tie us down and lobotomise our bodies to connect with their limited channels.

The computer mouse ties your hand to the table for 8 hours and anaesthetises your fingers to perform tiny motions. The screen bolts your head to one orientation. Your legs tire and ache underneath the table whilst your mind races ahead of the computer. The limitations of the computer's connections force your body into a communication posture that is extremely constraining. But if we manage to restraint ourselves for extended periods and plug into the machine, then our intellects can soar through the extraordinary and unlimited vistas.

The use of a display as a general purpose output device is inhumane, offering only a portal into a virtual world that ought to surround us in the physical world, as it does to our minds. Likewise the general purpose input device. This idea of a centralised computer will always degrade a human operator.

It is only by dismantling the centralised computer and relocating its components throughout the physical world in general, that we can regain our dignity. For example, through technology such as RFID, where the physical world is the computing medium. Innovation of software functions should slow down and shift to creating humane interaction mechanisms. The human only wants to save effort on undesirable tasks. The human wants to expend maximum effort in joyous creative tasks.
